Acumen Cyber Named in The Sunday Times Scotland Fast 50
When Acumen Cyber was founded in 2023, the goal was simple: build a different kind of cyber security company. One that put engineering expertise at the heart of security operations and delivered meaningful outcomes for customers.
Three years on, that journey has reached another important milestone, with Acumen Cyber being named in the inaugural edition of The Sunday Times Scotland Fast 50, celebrating Scotland's fastest-growing privately owned businesses.
Supported by Cazenove Capital and S&W, the Scotland Fast 50 recognises companies that have achieved exceptional and sustained growth. To qualify, businesses must have generated at least £2 million in annual sales, achieved average annual sales growth of more than 20 per cent over two years and employ a minimum of five people.
For Acumen Cyber, the recognition reflects the progress the business has made since launch. From the outset, the company set out to challenge the limitations of traditional managed security services by building a modern, engineer-powered Security Operations Centre that integrates people, process and technology.
Rather than relying on the tiered analyst structures commonly found across the industry, Acumen adopted a flat engineering model where experienced cyber defence engineers own the full security lifecycle, from detection engineering and threat hunting through to investigation and response. The result is faster decision making, stronger accountability and better outcomes for customers.
That approach has helped drive significant growth. Over the past two years, Acumen has doubled both annual recurring revenue and total turnover consecutively, increased headcount by 60 per cent and expanded its customer base across critical sectors. Today, the company supports organisations ranging from mid-sized businesses through to major institutions including Edinburgh Airport and Edinburgh Napier University.
The business has also achieved CREST accreditation for its Security Operations Centre, one of the most respected and rigorous standards in cyber security, validating the quality, maturity and effectiveness of its services.
Commenting on the achievement, Acumen Cyber CEO Mark Robertson said: "Being named on the very first Sunday Times Scotland Fast 50 is an incredible honour for the whole team. This kind of growth doesn't happen by accident; it's the result of relentless hard work, a clear sense of purpose and a brilliant group of people who believe in what we're doing. To be recognised alongside some of Scotland's most ambitious and fastest-growing companies, in what have been genuinely challenging trading conditions, makes this all the more meaningful."
While the recognition celebrates growth, it is also recognition of the trust customers place in Acumen every day. As cyber threats continue to evolve, the company remains focused on delivering high-quality cyber defence services that help organisations operate securely and with confidence.
A huge thank you to our customers, partners and team for being part of the journey so far.
Keep tuned for what's next.
